Rothbury 2011? Mass Gathering Permit Applied For
- Published on February 04, 2011

Madison House Presents has taken out an application for a mass gathering permit in Grant Township, MI, the host town of the previous Rothbury Festivals. According to Roger Schmidt, the Grant Township Supervisor, Rothbury director Jeremy Stein took out the application after a January 12 visit with local officials and they are "expecting to hear back from them within a month,” Schmidt said.
While this doesn't confirm that Rothbury is definitely back for 2011, it sure does add some legitimacy to the rumors that have been floating around. The most popular bit of insight before this news was this quote from Billy Nershi of The String Cheese Incident in a conversation with Glide Magazine: “We’re also planning on doing something next summer at the Rothbury site. That will be a weekend festival with a lot of String Cheese sets. It’ll be different from Rothbury in that it will be more like our thing at Horning’s, where String Cheese plays every night, and it will include bands in our String Cheese family with art installations and that kind of thing.”
With the news of this permit application and the tip off from Nershi a while back, it looks like something is no doubt in the works here. Of course, only time will tell, and Headstash will be here with the latest news so keep checking back for more.

Foo Fighters, Widespread Panic, Paul Simon to headline Hangout 2011
- Published on February 02, 2011
- By Austen Bailey

Hangout Music Festival is back for its second installment May 20 to 22 with a lineup that is quite impressive, albeit very top heavy.
Paul Simon, The Foo Figthers and Widespread Panic are set to headline the fest that also features My Morning Jacket, Primus, The Black Keys, Ween, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Umphrey’s McGee, Galactic, Bassnectar and Pretty Lights.
Check out the full lineup as well as ticketing information and analysis on the 2011 Headstash Music Festival Guide.
Also, to make up for their cancellation last year due to guitarist Steven Drozd’s hospitalization, the always-inspiring Flaming Lips will return to Alabama's Gulf Shores.
This festival really has something for everyone. from mainstream rock acts to jam bands, reggae to southern rock and even a little electronica, Hangout looks to be covering all their bases this year (pun intended).
Despite all the big names at the top of the lineup, festival goers should be able to enjoy some quality mid-tier bands like Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Dead Confederate, Keller Williams, Beats Antique, Portugal, The Man and The Easy Star All Stars.
With this exciting and eclectic mix of acts, you will definitely catch me hanging out in Gulf Shores for the beginning of my summer, especially with that Panic hiatus looming in 2012.

Paper Diamond Releases First EP "Levitate"
- Published on January 25, 2011
- By Ryan Stiles
Tuesday January 25, 2011 - a day that will forever live in womp-famy.
Alex B., of Pnuma Trio fame, finally released the EP for his side project Paper Diamond entitled "Levitate." The album is available to download for free on www.paper-diamond.com.
Stemming from his already brilliant use of both midi keyboards and live instruments, Alex B. has taken his unique electronic sound to a whole new level. Think of this album as a more intense, less repetitive type of dubstep.
Now don't get me wrong, I appreciate the womp and warble as much as the next person. But lately, the genre has become stale with too many untalented imitators forcing out poorly executed tracks in an effort to cheaply capitalize on dubstep's growing popularity. Understandably, dubstep has become something of a joke.
Thankfully, Alex B. and Paper Diamond are here to give the genre the swift kick in the ass it desperately needs.
Don't just take my word for it, download "Levitate" and see for yourself. It is free after all. Come one, come all and exalt your new dubstep god.

Pretty Lights Launches Record Label
- Published on January 25, 2011
- By Ryan Stiles

If you're reading this and you've yet to hear of Pretty Lights, do yourself a favor: pull your fingers out of your ears, turn up the bass and get your ass over to his website.
Pretty Lights, or producer Derek Vincent Smith as he's known by his parents, is one of the fastest rising stars in the electronica scene today.
Accompanied in a live setting by Break Science drummer Adam Deitch, Pretty Lights has been selling out venues across the country (including Colorado's Red Rocks) with no record label to back them.
[READ Headstash Magazine's interview with Derek Vincent Smith from last year.]
But that's all about to change as today Pretty Lights Music opened its virtual doors for business. With Pretty Lights' entire back catalog in addition to the newest from Break Science, Paper Diamond and Michael Menert, PLM is ready to make waves in the record label scene.
Do both Pretty Lights, and yourself a favor, and head over to his website right now and fill your dome with blissful melodies and filthy beats.
