Rolling Stone has confirmed that Trey Anastasio’s contribution to the score in the play "Hands on a Hardbody" will be making its premiere on Broadway this upcoming 2012 to 2013 season.
The play is a Broadway adaptation of a 1997 documentary to which Anastasio also scored. The story is about a competition between a group of Texans to see who can keep their hands on a truck the longest and subsequently win the truck.
This is not Anastasio’s first venture outside the jam-realm. In fact, Anastasio has been composing since he was a young man. His senior thesis, "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday," is often played with Phish and tells a familiarly epic tale of the land of Gamehendge.
Most recently, Anastasio just came off an orchestral tour with some of the most reputable orchestras in the country.
It's clear Anastasio’s talents span much farther than just wailing on a guitar with Phish. It will be interesting to see how his musical vision shines on Broadway.
