ALBUM REVIEW: Quixotic's Genre-Tilting "Axis"
- By Andrew Collins

The beats and rhythms of Quixotic’s self-released album, “Axis” takes you on an auditory journey of bass, chimes and synth that allows for an intense tribal experience. “Axis’” 11 tracks take its listeners on a trip through space, exploring a wide variety of sounds that develop and build upon each other throughout the entirety of the album. This electronic act is not about big drops, but rather a perpetually moving rhythm that keeps you along for the ride.
“Only Now,” begins as a downtempo track that provides an Arabian vibe through the vocal mixing and stringed instruments, gaining speed as the song progresses.
However, the titular track, “Axis,” brings the heat from the very beginning with a speedy electronic rhythm that keeps you bobbing and begging for more.

Flowing seamlessly into the next segment, “Transmissions” and “Synergist” build off the preceding songs, and the albums intense conceptualism becomes more apparent.
Quixotic aims to capture you in the flow and beat of their music and have you yearning for more, as their sultry sounds weave in and out of each other. With each song clocking in at around four minutes, you constantly get a taste of something new with just a hint of what came before and what is yet to come. Thus, the album is coherent and soothing.
Making your way through this album is like dancing through the depths of the minds of these musicians, producers and performers. Just like the artists themselves, these tracks begin in a basic form and are transformed into something more obscure yet still sophisticated.

It is this unfamiliar but infectious sound that keeps me moving from track to track as I unsuccessfully attempt to categorize what I’m hearing. And that’s the beauty of Quixotic. You do not need to pigeonhole them into certain genre of music. Sampling from different musical areas, they encapsulate a wide array of musical sounds, blending them together to make Quixotic Fusion.
Quixotic’s expansive act is commonly coupled with on-stage performers, aerial acrobatics, fire dancers, video projections and other visual aids to awaken all of your senses. This blend of musical prowess and elaborate live performances has been coined by the group as Quixtoic Fusion as they are able to blend many artistic disciplines into one show of psychedelic-trance.
Catch this unparalleled live experience at Wakarusa 2012 in Ozark, Arkansas, where this unique act will be holding it down during Wakarusa’s Interstellar Meltdown for three nights.
